Marshall Memo: Celebrating 50 Years of MoundsvilleÀÏ˾»úÖ±²¥™s Grand Vue Park

Grand Vue Park will be observing it’s 50th year starting in the month of May with one of the first events taking place on May 4 at a Gold Star Mothers event.

The attraction will include a “Living Memorial” apple orchard dedication of the Post 9/11 West Virginia Fallen Military Service members. The event will take place at 1 p.m.

The Moundsville Area Ministerial Association will be holding its National Day of Prayer at noon on Thursday on the grounds of the Marshall County Courthouse.

The theme will be “Lift Up the Word-Light Up the World” with 2 Samuel 22:29-31 as the scripture.

The NDOP is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people to pray for the nation.”

The welcome will be by Rev. Wesley Howsare, followed by the National Anthem/Pledge of Allegiance, and followed by the Reading of the Proclamation by Rev. Howsare.

The National Prayer will be by Rev.C.J. Plogger with other prayers being:

Prayer for Churches by Rev. Michael Taylor; Prayer for Federal Government by Mary Jo Guidi; Prayer for County Government by Mike Ferro; Prayer for City Government by Rick Healy; Prayer for Military by Jenna Moon; Prayer for Media by Dave Heath; Prayer for Business by Chris Thomas; Prayer for Education by David Soltesz; Prayer for Family by Chris Jacob’s.

The song “God Bless America” will be prior to the Benediction by Rev. Jon Moon.

A used book sale will take place at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library Friday through Monday, May 3-6.

The sale will take place at 700 5th St., at the garage doors.

The hours will be Friday and Monday, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon.

The event is being sponsored by the Moundsville Woman’s Club. All proceeds will benefit the Library. For those wanting more information they can call 304-845-6911.

The Opus Music Club will be performing at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 at the First Christian Church on Third Street in Moundsville.

Marshall County Strings will present its spring concert on Tuesday at the John Marshall High School Center for Performing Arts. The concert will be in two performances. Elementary and middle school students will perform at 6 p.m., and high school students will perform at 7 p.m.

Audience members will be welcome to attend one or both performances. The concerts are free; however, donations will be accepted.

Additionally, the strings program will present a donation to the American Cancer Society Marshall County Relay for Life in Honor of Hannah Woods. This donation is made possible with funds collected at the strings benefit concert this past February.

Students at Cameron High School, John Marshall High School, Moundsville Middle School and Sherrard Middle School will be selling hanging baskets, vegetables plants, herbs, and a variety of flowers they grew in their schools’ greenhouses, starting on May 1.
