Michael P. McCormick

A local attorney will serve a second term on a statewide board that helps guide members of the legal profession in the Buckeye State.

Attorney Michael P. McCormick has been reappointed by the Supreme Court of Ohio for a second term as a member of the Board of Commissioners on Character and Fitness.

The appointment is for three years, beginning Jan. 1, 2025, and ending Dec. 21, 2027.

The board consists of 12 members, one appointed by the Court from each of the 12 appellate court districts, who must be members of the Ohio bar. McCormick is the board member for the Seventh Appellate District, which encompasses Belmont, Noble, Jefferson, Harrison, Monroe, Columbiana and Mahoning counties.

The board’s essential functions are to promulgate admission standards and applications to the practice of law; supervise the work of local bar admissions committees; review the character, fitness and moral qualifications of each applicant for admission; and hear appeals from admission applicants who receive adverse admission recommendations from local bar admission committees.

“The Justices of the Court appreciate your commitment to serve your profession and the people of Ohio as a member of the Board of Commissioners on Character and Fitness,” Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Sharon L. Kennedy wrote in a letter to McCormick informing him of his reappointment.

McCormick is a graduate of the Ohio Northern University Claude W. Pettit College of Law and has practiced law for 35 years with the law firm of Hanlon, McCormick, Schramm, Bickford & Schramm, Co., LPA in St. Clairsville.

“It is a great honor to have the confidence of the Ohio Supreme Court for the re-appointment,” McCormick said. “I succeeded Attorney Charles H. Bean, one of the finest attorneys Ohio has ever produced.”

McCormick resides in Bethesda with his wife Marsha. He is the son of John R. and Pauline J. McCormick.
